My child loves to have this book read to her -- the rhyming verse captures her attention, and she loves the cat pictures. The illustrations are endearing, and the story of how one cat teaches another to be a friend is a life lesson that every child should know. I'm glad I bought this book!
I'm always looking for books to read to my grandchildren at bedtime and this one hits the jackpot. As with his earlier book, The Great Mizzariddle, Mr. McElroy delivers a story that holds attention, is playful with language, amuses AND is just the right length before tucking in. The illustrations are artful, but also bold enough to please a child.
I am so happy to read a children's book that contains such a heartfelt message about friendship. My son, who is 8 years old read it to his younger siblings. While they all loved the story, they fell in love with the beautiful illustrations. I purchased another book and had the painted pages framed to decorate my daughter's bedroom, she just loves those characters.
Jibicle and Cokie is a delightful story of true friendship and a wonderful example of how to be a friend. This book is a must for every teacher as we begin the new school year and students are meeting new friends. I can't wait to share it with my students. We will use this book not only to talk about friendship, but also for understanding characters, compare and contrast of personality, cause and effect relationships, abstract thinking, and so much more. Move over Frog and Toad, a new classic has arrived!
Mr. McElroy personally hand delivered this book to me with all the warmth and charm evident in his writing style. My nearly three year old daughter ADORES this book. She even compares our cats to Jibicle and Cokie (I think she likes to say their names- they are fun words!). She carries it around with her everywhere, sleeps with it, wants it read all the time. She is learning language and speech patterns from the meter and rhyming of the text. The illustrations are beautiful and bright. It teaches a great lesson on friendship and personal character. I do not hesitate to recommend this book to others.
Excellent story for young and old. A tale of friendship and acceptance that can be a lesson for the youngest reader/listener to the oldest reader. The illustrations are so wonderful that you feel that you can touch the page and feel the softness of the kitty cats. A treasure for anyone's library and a sweet gift for a treasured friend who has a special place in your heart. I hope to see more tales about Jibicle & Cokie in the future.
